It was definitely a “God thing.” I was tired of meeting single guys who didn’t really seem to have God first in their lives. I was committed to waiting on God for His choice for me — so I left it in His hands, and just lived my everyday life. A friend suggested I sign on at Christian Mingle, so I thought, what the heck, maybe I will try this.
I loved the pages of questions — it saved so much emotional energy to know that so much info was already sifted out. And, because John was so far away (he in Reno, me in Orange County) I felt safe in corresponding with him often. I felt that I really got to know him, without the pressure of chemistry.
He just “happened” to have a time-share in Mexico, so we met for dinner, in La Jolla, but not before I talked with his pastor for 30 minutes to make sure he was who he said he was spiritually, and personally. That was very helpful. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to dine with an “ax murderer!”
We had dinner — and I think we were both smitten. Thankfully the geological distance kept us relating on an e-mail/phone basis. Soon enough, he “just happened” to have work-related business here in Orange County, so we had more time together. Within 7 months, he had relocated from Reno to Orange County. The fun thing was, his son was getting ready to go to UCI in the fall, so HE actually lived with me first!
We married 14 months after meeting on Christian Mingle. We both laugh because neither of us wanted a “long distance” relationship! Oh well!
I will have to get him to send you the picture of us — we have 5 kids between us — 18-24. God is working out those details, but I am awed at how His choice of a mate continues to be more wonderful everyday. God truly is the best matchmaker, and worth waiting for! Thanks Christian Mingle!
