John and I met on Christian Mingle in July of 2008. I had simply been tired of the people I was meeting and really desired to be a part of a church community. John had recently moved to Arizona with his job and was searching for a church community as well. The very first line of his profile quickly caught my attention:
“ I am a Texas boy at heart…”
Being a girl who was raised in Texas, I immediately wanted to get to know him. We talked for about a month about church, our life’s desires, and of course Texas. We would always be sure to let the other one know when we were planning to travel home to Texas, just to make the other one jealous. We were supposed to meet at a young adult church service one evening, but I canceled because my friend desperately needed a ride to the airport.
John was very persistent and a few hours later, I found myself driving to meet him for dinner. The next few nights were the exact same. Our conversations were always long and filled with laughter. We did not quickly consider ourselves “dating”. Instead, we were partners in crime for the Kingdom of God. We pushed each other to take steps that we would not have done if we were going at it alone. We started serving with our new church community and attend a Bible study group. Of course as time went on, we started falling for each other and began trusting the path that God was leading us down.
Over the course of the past three years, we have grown in our faith with the Lord, taken over leadership of the Bible study group of 30+ young adults, and fallen in love with one another.
On December 21, 2010 (John’s Birthday), John took me to a beautiful amphitheater built into a mountain here in Phoenix. As the sun was setting, we arrived and we hiked up a small trail that would reveal the amphitheater. Some of our friends had decorated it with luminaries and they had also set up John’s guitar in the middle of the Amphitheater. He walked me up the steps and sat me down next to his guitar. The view was absolutely stunning as the sun was going down over the desert. John sat with me and grabbed his guitar and started playing. After a few moments of strumming around he started singing “Marry Me” by Train. I will never forget that look on his face. Luckily our friends were able to capture wonderful pictures of the moment. I could not stop crying as I said yes.
A few moments later I just busted up laughing, this of course confused him a bit, and told him how when my parents moved me from Texas to Arizona at the age of 12, I cried and said I would never have a Texas husband if they moved me.
On May 20, 2011, I married my God loving, Texas man in Texas! Thank you Christian Mingle.com!
