My husband, Chris, and I met on your website at the end of August of 2009. I had been praying for “the one” for what seems like forever…it was not my timing, it was God’s. I actually contacted Chris first! I remember thinking, “This guy from Kansas isn’t going to want anything to do with a girl from Long Island, NY.” I loved his pictures and what he stood for…. Jesus! I loved that he was 6 foot 5 inches.
He contacted me back the next day and it happened to be his last day on the site because his membership was up. We began talking on the phone that night. We started with general “Get to know you” questions. We both had the same ideas about what we wanted from life and we knew that we wanted Jesus at the center of it all. That night we read together Proverbs 31 and we prayed together and put the whole relationship in God’s hands.
We continued talking on the phone every night for the next 3 weeks for anywhere from 1 to 3 hours each night. We were getting to know each other very well and I knew that at the very least, this man would be a lifelong friend. Chris planned his first visit to NY so we could meet each other 3 weeks after we started talking. We were doing this God’s way this time and Chris was a perfect gentleman.
We definitely fell for each other on that first trip, but didn’t say “I love you” until Chris was home again and we were on the phone. My first trip to Kansas was at the end of September 2009. We got engaged on December 5, 2009. It was very quick according to the world’s standards, but I vividly felt God nudging me on the shoulder while Chris was down on one knee and say, “Go ahead, this is him! It doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks about how soon it is. Obey me.” Well, I did listen to God and we got married on January 17, 2010 in Kansas.
We eloped because there was a lot of confrontation regarding our quick engagement and me eventually moving to Kansas, but we prayed about it and decided we were going to be God-pleasers and not man-pleasers. We lived apart while we were married until I finished out my school year because I am a school teacher. That meant we traveled back and forth as husband and wife from January until June, but on June 30, 2010, Chris came out to take his bride home to Kansas. We have been here ever since, serving the Lord.
God has blessed us with two little boys! Wyatt Christopher, born 2/14/12 and Collin Michael, born 3/27/13. Every time I see your commercials, I tell Chris that we need to write in! Your website was God’s way for this city girl from NY to meet her farm boy from rural Kansas. Chris’s sister went onto your site because we met that way, and she ended up meeting her husband on there, too! They got married this past September.
