I was urged by my young adult sons who saw the Christian Mingle commercials, to join the site. I felt like I was too busy opening a new business in my area, but reasoned that I had nothing to lose.
Within a couple of months I had connected with three gentlemen. I tease my now husband, Rick, who asked me out first because I had referred to him as “Bachelor #3.” There was no need to meet “Bachelor 1 and 2” because I met the love of my life and soul mate!
Our relationship was tested quickly because I lost my position with the new business about two weeks after our first date. Rick encouraged me, took me to job interviews, and continuing education classes. I accepted a new position within a few weeks, and was also able to hire Rick (who is retired) on a part-time basis.
Who could not fall in love with a man who was so supportive?! There were many other “firsts” and we have had the time of our lives loving, growing, and working together. The point Rick would add is that he has made his life “all about me” to which I then put his needs above my own. And, I have yet to open a building or car door!
Rick proposed on my 54th birthday on October 2nd. We married on November 12, 2013, because it was a fun date and we could honeymoon in the Smoky Mountains in the fall. When asked why we got married as quickly as we did, I borrow the quote from When Harry Met Sally, “because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”
I would advise others to be open in the matching phase, and to read the profiles carefully as even in Christian settings there are differences in faith, belief, and worship.
