Josh and I started talking on Christian Mingle in December 2013. I was very skeptical of online dating, but after watching “You’ve Got Mail” and gushing at all of that adorable cuteness, I decided to join. My Mom had recently met her fiancé, and now husband, on Christian Mingle, and I thought “Hey… why not give it a chance?” Josh’s older brother had met his now wife on Christian Mingle last August (2013) and convinced Josh it was a good idea to sign up as well. Josh was getting to the end of his subscription in December, and was ready to throw in the towel. After he smiled at me on the site, it took me a few days to smile back at him. Even when I did, I kept the conversations between us sparse until Christmas Eve. Then, we really began talking.
We met in person directly after that, and quickly realized how much we deeply cared for each other. We lived rather close to each other, so it was easy to see each other when our lives allowed. Slowly but surely we started spending more and more time together. I knew he was “the one” after our third date, when I met his family and felt right at home. I couldn’t believe the Lord brought such a kind-hearted, wonderful, and humorous man into my life; with a wonderful family that accepted me with open arms. The next night, he met my family and his feelings echoed mine. He said he knew I was “the one” the night he met my family and we shared our first kiss afterwards.
We dated for a few months and continued to move forward in our relationship. We began talking about an engagement and wedding. On April 27, 2014, Josh made that dream a reality by proposing. It was the easiest “Yes” I ever had to say! I actually had to say it twice because I couldn’t get it out the first time due to my uncontrollable giggling at the realization of what was happening!
When I think about the ways in which the Lord so effortlessly brought us together, thanks to Christian Mingle, I am simply overwhelmed with joy. He knew that what He had in store for us was better than anything in our wildest dreams. Josh and I are quite different in many ways, so much so that we have each said we aren’t sure we would’ve taken a chance on each other if we had met in person.
However, because we met on Christian Mingle, the “Mechanic” and the “Opera Singing Choir Teacher” had a chance to truly find their way into each other’s hearts and lives. Honestly, on this side of it all, I can’t imagine my life without this incredible love we share. We feel as if we have known each other our whole lives, and yet we met just a mere seven months ago; and on the internet of all places! It was all because of Christian Mingle and the Lord waiting to do an incredible work in both of our lives that this love we share ever had a chance to begin.
One particular Scripture that has helped us through this journey together is 1 Peter 4:8, “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” We are both so very far from perfect people, and together we definitely don’t make one perfect person or couple. However, with the Lord guiding and leading our lives together, we have had so many amazing opportunities to learn more and more about Him and to see the beauty in all He does.
Don’t lose heart! If the Lord has your prince charming or princess waiting to meet you on Christian Mingle, He will make it so. If there’s anything we’ve learned it’s that His ways are unshakable, unstoppable, and mysterious to us. If you would’ve asked us when we each began our Christian Mingle journey, we never would’ve imagined that we would be getting married to the person God had waiting for us on December 27, 2014.
