'Heal My Broken Heart': How To Receive God's Future For You

We hear it all the time after a breakup: “They just weren’t God’s best for you, and He has someone even better in store for you.” A part of us believes that, but in the midst of being utterly heartbroken, it’s hard to see the light again. So, how do you begin to get over a broken past in order to receive God’s future for you? How do you ask God ”please –  heal my broken heart?”

Praising God In Difficult Times

In the story of Job, God takes all he had away, and for what purpose? It’s because God knew that Satan was wrong about Job; God knew that Job, even amidst suffering, loss and pain, would still praise and glorify the Father. For us as human beings, that is sacrificial love to Jesus. We are loving Him despite our loss.

“Satan said to God, ‘But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.’”  —Job 1:11

Job was considered among the wealthiest people of the East, and suddenly everything was taken away. But what did Job do?

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.”  —Job 1:21

He still praised God. So, what did God do? Because of Job’s faithfulness, God gave back to him twice as much than he had before, including his sons and daughters who died.

I know it’s hard to praise God amidst loss. When ”heal my broken heart” is running through your mind, it’s hard to find the space for anything else. However, internally, as believers, we should always be so near to God, that we are always in a state of worship – worshiping Him no matter the harshness of the waves that crash over us, worshiping Him in spite of our pain. In the end, God is bigger than our loss, bigger than our relationships, bigger than our heartache.

Moving On From Loss

Don’t be too hard on yourself if you can’t just “get over it.” It could take months or even years to fully recover from serious heartbreak.

Sometimes it’s less about getting over it and more about stepping over it. Rather than ”heal my broken heart” you can start by thinking ”let me live with my broken heart.” You may just need to say enough is enough, and let it be known to Satan that our life is not miserable now because of our broken relationships and aching hearts. Our life is so much more, and it thrives around glorifying the Father.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”  —Psalm 34:18

”Heal My Broken Heart” – Resting In Him

Pray even harder, seek God even more, and rest peacefully in His faithfulness and promises to you, because just as He had them for Job who remained faithful amidst loss and pain, surely God has them also for you if you remain strong amidst the storm. It’s true what family and friends say; God’s future for you is so much more than you imagined.
