Lorna & Ernest: A Long-Distance Love Story

Lorna and Ernest’s love story began in 2024, and from the start, they shared adventures, church outings, and trips to historic sites, quickly building a strong connection despite the distance. Their shared interests and daily conversations brought them closer, leading to a simple, beautiful wedding and a lifelong partnership.

How did you meet? What was your first date like?
Our first in-person meeting was at the Owensboro, Kentucky Regional Airport in August 2024. Ernest flew from PA to KY. I had someone take a picture of us the exact moment we met face to face. We went to church together, visited the Ark Encounter and The Creation Museum, drove to the Smoky Mountains, went white-water rafting, and celebrated my birthday together before Ernest flew back to PA in September.

Describe the moment you knew it was true love!
I knew early on during our phone conversations that Ernest was the one. Ernest only wanted friendship until one day in July the Holy Spirit gave him a gentle nudge that I was the one. Behind the scenes, I had been praying for the Lord to open his eyes. When that day came and Ernest told me he wanted to be more than friends, I was astounded. God had gotten his attention regarding me as a potential wife. I became his girlfriend, and we agreed not to date other people and to talk every day by phone. Our relationship grew from Christian friends to a long-distance Christian couple.

What can you tell us about the proposal?
I flew to PA for the Christmas season and for Ernest’s birthday. We really got to know each other, and I thought he might propose on Christmas. I knew he was in love with me, but the proposal came on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2025. Ernest asked me to marry him and said that 2025 was our year.

What can you tell us about the wedding?
Ernest and I are both senior citizens—in our mid-60s. We had a church wedding in Southern Indiana with a few close friends attending. One couple traveled all the way from Ernest’s church in Gettysburg, PA. Our wedding was simple and beautiful. Ernest sang a song to me, I made a video of our love story that was played during the ceremony, and we took communion together. The minister gave a beautiful sermon about marriage representing Christ and the Church. Our wedding lasted 35 minutes, but our love will last a lifetime.

What advice would you give other Christian Mingle members who are still looking for love?
Having the same faith is the most important thing. We are both born-again, Spirit-filled Christians with the same religious beliefs and convictions. Next, save yourself for marriage. Both of us had been married before, had been single for years, and neither of us wanted to grow old alone. That’s why we were on Christian Mingle. God’s timing is perfect—He will bring your future spouse into your life when the time is right. Finally, shared interests matter. Besides our faith, we both love Bible study, attending church, history, movies, chess, cooking together, conversation, travel, sharing the gospel, and praying together as a couple.
