Laura and I met on Christian Mingle in either late winter 2010 or early winter 2011. I saw that she had viewed my profile and naturally I was curious, so I checked out her profile. What I saw was a lovely, intelligent woman who shared my beliefs. The distance between us was approximately 1,300 miles, and was the only thing that was off-putting to me. We began chatting and I figured at the very least, I’d have another friend. Little did I know…
We talked for several weeks through the site and Skype, and arranged to meet in Seattle. I remember vividly the first words I said to her upon meeting, “I was going to think of something clever to say, but I think I’ll just settle for ‘hi’.” We visited the Space Needle, the Experience Music Project Museum, Pike Place Market and other attractions during our week-long trip together. I met her parents there as well. Laura and I were both sad to leave, but we knew the risk we had both taken to meet someone we’d never met face-to-face, and spend a week with them was worth it. There was a connection.
We officially started dating in September 2011. It was on the next trip to Torrington, Wyoming, where I was living, that I first told her I was in love with her. During the nearly two years that she and I dated, we also visited Akron, Ohio, where she met most of my family; Surrey, British Columbia, where I met most of her family; and Wheatland, Wyoming, where I currently reside.
On February 28, 2013, I took Laura to Guernsey State Park, where she and I had been about a year earlier. I took her to “The Castle,” which is literally a castle-like structure overlooking the Laramie Mountains; Laura told me we had to visit it again before she left. What she didn’t know was that’s where I was going to ask for her hand in marriage. She said “yes,” just as the sunset was upon us. I’d like to think that was another sign that this was the one God meant for me.
Laura and I got married on October 26, 2013. It was as beautiful ceremony and an amazing, unforgettable day.
I, like others before me, wasn’t really sure what was going to come of joining Christian Mingle; but the way I see it, there’s no better place to put your love life than in God’s hands, and this site is a great way to do it.
If not for Christian Mingle, I would never have met the love of my life. For members on the site or those thinking about joining, if the Spirit leads you, join! It might take some time to find the one you’re looking for, or you might just luck out and find him or her on the first go. Maybe this will serve as a way to make friends from all around the world. The thing is you never know until you try, so if God leads you to the site, I’d really recommend joining and sticking with it.
