This is the second marriage for both of us. After numerous failed attempts to find someone, we both had decided to give it one more try. I had seen his profile on ChristianMingle before and we had sent “smiles”. However, we hadn’t really talked much. As the school year was coming to an end, I told him I would not have internet at my house and he could contact/text me on my cell. I didn’t expect him to call or text. When I saw my phone light up with an unfamiliar number, I almost didn’t answer it. Boy, am I glad I did! We talked for about two hours and it felt as if we had known each other for years. There were no awkward pauses or moments where we were searching for something to say. It was like God was telling me, “You can trust this man.”
We talked and texted every day for a couple of weeks. It didn’t take long for strong feelings to start to grow. We both were a little nervous to say the “L” word over the phone without meeting first. We thought we were crazy. Others definitely thought we were crazy. But God knew what we had was real. After all, it was His plan for us to meet! We professed our love for one another on June 12, 2012 (yes, before our first actual date).
He lived a little over 2 hours away from me, so it made seeing each other a little more difficult. When the time came and I was finally going to visit him for the first time, I was beyond anxious and excited. When I am excited to go somewhere I don’t sit around and wait. I am usually annoyingly EARLY! I got half way from my house and his with a mess of time to spare. I went to the city park and sat and prayed for almost an hour. I asked God to make it obvious for me. I asked for guidance and a clear head.
I loved this man already, and he said he loved me. I was worried though, because he hadn’t seen me yet. I was worried because I am a plus-sized woman and I thought maybe he wouldn’t be attracted to me. As soon as he pulled up at our meeting spot, I thought, “Wow! He is gorgeous!”
I got out of my car, walked toward him, and without fear, wrapped my arms around him and kissed him. It sounds bold and forward, neither which are characteristics I would have used to describe myself up until that very moment. That first day we were together was incredible. What we had was honest and true love with God as our foundation.
The next weekend, I met Keith’s children for the first time. They were/are wonderful kids. It is a great responsibility and difficult job to be a stepmother. However, I knew I was up for the challenge. We had such a wonderful time together this past summer!
Then in August, we got engaged, and married just about a month ago.
It sounds like a whirlwind, and maybe it is, but we were sure it was right, and didn’t want to wait!
